You Really Do Have What It Takes!

Is there something you've always wanted to do, but were afraid to try because you lacked the confidence to move forward?
Do you look around and start comparing yourself to others, convincng yourself you're unqualified for your dream job and decide not to apply after all?
What about the business venture you want to start?
Do you have a book inside you, just waiting to be written?
Do you have a desire to run a marathon?
What about starting a Non-Profit Organization?
If you answered yes, to any of these questions. I want to encourage you to take some time this week to get honest with yourself and begin to shift your mindset from "I don't have what it takes." to "I really do have what it takes!"
You may not have all the skills necessary to fulfill the dream today, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't start the process.
The first step is to START.
The next step is to keep showing up and learning the skills needed to move forward.
Consistency is truly the secret to success!
You may not get it right the first, second, or third time, but eventually you will gain the skills needed and even more confidence along the way.
Remember that nothing worth having comes easy.
It takes focus, learning, practice, and skill development.
I can assure you that the sense of accomplishment you will experience will be worth the effort.
Celebrate each win along the way. Not just big wins, but even the small ones. This will give you the energy boost needed to keep you moving closer to your goal.
I suggest that you journal about your progress and what you're learning. This will come in handy on days when you start to lose momentum. Reflecting on the hard things you've overcome and the lessons you are learning along the way will help you gain more confidence.
The Sound of Music is one of my favorite movies. Julie Andrews plays the role of Sister Maria, a Nun who is given the responsibility of filling the position of a Nanny for seven children. She has no experience, but musters up the confidence needed.
In the movie there is a song entitled, I Have Confidence. It is a good reminder for us today:
What will this day be like? I wonder.
What will my future be? I wonder.
It could be so exciting to be out in the world, to be free!
My heart should be wildly rejoicing. Oh, what's the matter with me?
I've always longed for adventure. To do the things I've never dared.
Now here I'm facing adventure. Then why am I so scared?
A captain with seven children. What's so fearsome about that?
Oh, I must stop these doubts. All these worries.
If I don't, I just know I'll turn back!
I must dream of the things I am seeking, I am seeking the courage I lack.
The courage to serve them with reliance. Face my mistakes without defiance.
Show them I'm worthy. And while I show them, I'll show me!
Let them bring on all their problems. I'll do better than my best.
I have confidence they'll put me to the test! But I'll make them see I have confidence in me.
Somehow, I will impress them. I will be firm but kind.
And all those children, Heaven bless them. They will look up to me and mind me!
With each step I am more certain everything will turn out fine.
I have confidence the world can all be mine! They'll have to agree I have confidence in me.
