"You may not always make right decisions; however, you have the ability to make a decision and then make it right." - anonymous
"Why me?" is a question that people have been asking themselves since time began. I've come to realize that most people who ask this question are in the center of a self-absorbed pity party. A party that allows one to rationalize where they are in life, authorized them to escape taking responsibility for the situation at hand. If you find yourself regularly attending the pity party, it is out of concern for your well-being that I post this blog today.
I recently spent time with a man who made a number of bad choices in his past. He understood that he had made bad choices, but didn't think this present situation was of his making. He said things like, "I didn't choose to live in a two bedroom apartment and be struggling financially. This wasn't my choice!" The harsh reality is that he did make that choice. We are all in situations of our own choosing. Our thinking produces a course of success or failure. Let's take a look at the path he chose, and then answer the following question. . .who is to blame?
Years ago, he chose to get married when he was eighteen after his freshman year of college. He chose to transfer after his sophomore year and chose to begin a family prior to his graduation. He chose to purchase a new car when he was 21 years old and chose how many credit cards he would apply for. He chose to eat steak instead of hamburger and fast food instead of vegetables. He chose his household expenses. He chose not to honor his marriage vows, and his wife initiated a divorce. He chose to blame her for his current situation. And now chooses to ask the question, "Why me?"
Who is to blame? __________________________
I recently read that unsuccessful people are always looking for someone else to blame for their circumstances. It's time we face reality. Our thinking dictates our decisions. Decisions are choices. I like what Steve Gilliland has to say about this, "You can spend the rest of your life blaming everything or everyone but yourself (why me), or you can take responsibility for your past and start a new chapter and embrace the challenges (why not me). Instead of reading the same page over and over, it is time for you to turn the page. It is time to start a new chapter in your life and not let history dictate the rest of your life." - "Making A Difference" by Steve Gilliland.
It's time to walk away from the pity party, turn the page, and celebrate the rest of your life!
You can choose to make a better life for yourself - right now!
Have a great day!
